Explore the Rooms of Nottoway
In the Plantation of Nottoway there are 64 rooms. Here is a description of some of the most important that the family used.
The White Ballroom
This room was home to many parties back in the day.The Randolphs were know to have many lavish parties. The White Ballroom was where many of their parties were held. Three of the Randolph girls were married in this room. Today many parties and weddings are still held here. As you can see in the picture to the left this ballroom is solid white. Mr. Randolph requested it to be like this sop that it would reflect the beauty of his daughters and wife.
The Dinning Room
This room was where the Family would eat dinner and entertain dinner guest. It was modeled after Mrs. Randolph. She loved flowers so many of the utensils and plates along with the molding in the room had painted flowers on it. In the corner of the room though, there was a plate warmer. Since there were no microwaves back then it was used to help heat your food. If a guest had overstayed their welcome then the family would not have their plate warmed before dinner. The plates used in this room if put in a certain order should tell a story. No one knows what the exact order of the plates it so the story was never revealed.
Gentleman's study
This room was designed specifically for Mr. Randolph. This is the room where he would relax after a hard days work. The women were never allowed to enter this room. This room now, as you can see in the picture to the left, is green. The green walls are not original to this room. In fact the fourth owner painted most of the house, which before had all solid white walls.
